Looking back at your childhood
~ a picture I was very proud of, but it was shortlived ~
Monday 10 September 2007

Here is a sketch that I drew on my school exercise book when I was little. This was done way back in 1991. I was probably 8 years old that time, but still loved doodling as much as I do now.

At that time, I used to draw crazy stuff. Like, really... stuff like a madman would come up with. It usually involves annoying-looking protagonists, angry people, cartoon torture, lasers and explosions ( lots of em ) and of course, man-fighting. They are usually drawn in a very aggressive manner. Sometimes the whole page will be filled with pencil scratches like the ones you see done by that kid in The Ring movie.

So anyway, one day, I thought I'd do something very realistic. You know, like Mona Lisa or something. That's how I came up with the drawing above.

I guess it's easy to see how a kid my age would be very happy with that. Yes, I was damn proud of my work, and rightfully so. To me, it was the most realistic figure I've ever drawn. It might be a little hard to see, so let me point out the little details that I crammed into this masterpiece:

He has eyelashes.
He has thick lips.
His face has wrinkles.
So do his clothes.
His shirt has a collar. (yes that's a collar, not a scarf)
Even his finger joints are drawn accurately.

Pretty cool, eh?

Now I don't want to write anything more about how I felt that time, because frankly I forgot. What I've written here so far is not made up and is pretty much true (at least I hope my memory serves me right).

So yeah, as I was saying... it was a great feat.

As always, I showed it to my brother.

He added this:

A guy, his sisters and a dear friend
~ a quadri-portrait story ~
Wednesday 29 August 2007

I've been doing a bunch of character portraits lately . I think they're pretty fun to draw. It also sharpens your perception in character design, structure, lighting, colour choice and value to name a few. That's like a full-body workout for your right brain. Ahh, I'll definitely do more in the future. :)

So without further ado, here they are. Oh yeah, each portrait is also accompanied with a little narrative bio (pardon my itchy writing fingers). Hope you'll like it!

This is Brody.
He is a big guy with a big nose.
People used to call him "Brodolph the Reindeer".
That was until they notice his beautiful muscular biceps.
They stopped teasing him since.

This is Brody's sister. Her name is Alissa de Jeunesse.
Actually, her real name is Brianna. But she doesn't want you to know that.
Alissa spends her day being too nice to other people.
On the flipside, she has recurring dreams of making their lives miserable.
But in the end, they're just dreams.

This is their yougest sister. Her name is Enid.
Enid has a pretty boring personality. But that is not much of a problem.
Alissa decided to spice up her image by tying a petite ribbon on her head.
It works wonders.

And lastly,
This is Enid's worst fear.
His name is Maple Syrup.
He is not imaginary.

~ The End ~

So where's my Oscar?!

Important announcement to all Malaysians
Thursday 16 August 2007

The greatest CG animated movie of 2007 is out today!

If you think this is just "yet another 3D cartoon with cute animals", you're dead wrong. What makes this animated movie different from the others? Oh that's easy. It's him.

BRAD BIRD

The name that you should remember.
He's the writer and director of Ratatouille. He, on the other hand, can do no wrong.

So please go watch it! If you don't, then you're not my friend!

Happy birthday to you
Wednesday 8 August 2007

This one is dedicated to you.

We've been through quite an interesting ride, eh?

I think you finally deserve a proper mention on my page.

After all, without you, I don't think I would be sitting here right now typing this up.

It's funny that I seldom brought you up among my other friends.

Maybe because I have so many good things to say about you.

It would feel as if I'm bragging too much. And jealousy would definitely ensue after that.

So for that reason, I keep quiet. I'm sorry!

But even without my words, I have a gut feeling that people still acknowledged us.

A strong bond that we both hold dearly. I like to leave it at that.

So thank you. You gave me a reason to draw.

You helped me reach the world.

Do I help you too? I hope so!

Let us watch into the sky and expect greater things for years to come.

Happy birthday to you, Daimation.

You're 1 year old today!

2 sketches and a half

Something normal.

Something not quite normal.

And lastly.... an added bonus! Having finally watched Transformers recently.

Goodbye.

A year ago today
Wednesday 11 July 2007

A year ago today.

Was the public screening for the University of Portsmouth final year students in London.

I think it was a great day.

Though I can't remember much.

All I could remember was the feeling of light-headedness through the evening.

And a chinese lady that looked like she had too many drinks.

But that is besides the point.

Our hard work was finally shown on the big projector screen.

I got to show my animation "Death, Kitty & the Fat Man".

Got a couple of laughs and awwws and claps in the end.

It was a great feeling.

That is why I think that that day was cooler than graduation itself.

But graduation made my parents proud.

And we get to wear awesome robes.

So I guess that was a different kind of coolness.

As of today, it marks the 1 year anniversary of my Death & Kitty.

I've been meaning to put the animation up on my website for ages.

But due to bandwidth restrictions, I can't do that yet.

It will be resolved soon enough.

Here's to all the Pompey ex-students.

I know I haven't kept in touch with most of you.

But I know most of you are doing well now.

Here's hoping that we rule the world one day.

Why do I type like this for today's entry?

I don't know, it looks somewhat poetic... hee hee.

What?
Thursday 5 July 2007

Just remembered that I could draw.

Looks like I still got the touch.

Uniqlock
Sunday 1 July 2007

Blatantly stolen from Birdie's blog because I think it's so darn cool.

Be sure to turn the sound on when it loads.

I could watch this all day. 8-)
