Concept
Blue vs Red, the universal colours of contrast. With Colour Clash, I wanted to show something that intrigues the audience. I think the fact that you can see both sides of the room simultaneously makes it amusing; how the characters are determinedly exchanging blows between each other and anticipating the next devastating counter-attack, while here we are enjoying the full view of the mayhem like some sadistic God. It's true, we all like to see disaster befell upon others.

Having the animation in a "single static camera" formula also gives it a toy-like setting, what with all the tiny props and all. Remember the time when we used to play with little miniatures? Pitting them in doll houses (erm... actually I don't have a doll house.... honest!) and just let your imagination run wild? I wanted Colour Clash to take that concept and wrap itself up in a comical love story.

Characters

On the left, we have Sir Violet. Big, bulking and geometrical, he enjoys doing hard work labour and any other physical activities that challenges his muscular arms. His constant obsession with upper-body workout has left his legs under-developed though.

On the right, we have Lady Rose. This slim and slender woman prefers the gentler side of life, namely art and literature. Due to her chosen lifestyle, her arms are as thin as spaghetti strings. However, she more than makes up for it with her long, healthy legs. Ooo-la-la....

Yes, they both are total opposites. Even the rooms that they live in reflect the quirky characteristics that they hold. Take a closer look if you haven't noticed. :)

Extra tidbits!
- All the furniture in the animation are actually not coloured. In fact, they're all grey. It's the lights that gave them colour.

- During the building topple scene, everything is animated manually. No dynamics were used for the furniture. *wheww!*

- The characters' names were taken from the famous poem, "Roses are red, Violets are blue", to signify their love relationship.

- Original title was supposed to be "Cookie Crumbs" since they look like gingerbread people. Plus, I thought it sounded cute. It was later scrapped for being too vague.

- The soundtrack that was used towards the end of the animation was taken from "Silhouette Mirage", a wacky Japanese game, which coincidentally deals with the blue/red theme as well. I didn't realise this until after I finished the whole animation!
